The Brief: Worcester Film Festival and Artists Clubhouse are excited to launch the brief for the fifth year of our film-inspired art trail Lights, Camera…Paint, this time featuring the theme: 'Severn On Screen'!

‘Lights, Camera…Paint’ is an art competition, open to all artistic levels, to create a piece of artwork that is inspired by your favourite film/TV and incorporates the theme in some way.
Worcester’s riverine location has always been integral to its identity with its name originating from a pre-Saxon or early Anglo-Saxon tribe (the Weogoran) who occupied the area around the River Severn. We are looking for art that is inspired by Worcestershire's waterways, wetlands, rainfall, springs etc merged with your favourite Film and TV shows.
Perhaps it's a film that already includes water in its locations or theme, or maybe the film/TV series has nothing to do with water at all but could be reimagined to include it somehow. A new setting, a character becomes a water dweller or perhaps water itself is taken into account in the way you create your artwork. We love to see really creative and out of the box uses of the theme, work does not have to be directly linked to the River Severn, more inspired by water itself.
All artwork should be designed square and if selected will be placed into a movie poster style template, created by Artists Clubhouse and Worcester Film Festival.
20 selected entrants will be chosen to have their artwork displayed in shop windows across the city centre of Worcester in the month run up and during the Film Festival (22nd-26th September), along with 5 posters created by local charities/organisations.
All 25 participants will receive an invite to the Worcester Film Festival Launch Event, where the posters will be displayed for everyone to enjoy and celebrate the coming together of art and film.
3 Artists will be shortlisted and receive full access passes to the Film Festival (excluding the Gala).
A winner will then be selected from the 3 to be presented with a certificate and prize at the launch event.
The winners will be chosen by our LCP judging panel. All chosen artwork will get featured on Artists Clubhouse social media pages and website.

Feel free to contact us if you need any help or advice before hand.
Submission Info:
Submissions need to be in digital format.
Please do not add a border or create as a poster yourself as the art work will be set into a poster format created by us (text can be added to design if it is part of the image design but the title, your name etc is not needed).
If your artwork is not digital originally then it will need to be scanned or photographed at a high resolution setting such as 600 dpi or above.
Please send via WeTransfer or a similar application to avoid the image resolution being affected.
In your submission email please include:
- Your name.
- The title of your piece (Be creative! This should be an original title you have given to your art, not the actual film/s title)
- A short description of you as an artist, what film/TV it is inspired by and why (this will be for our blog page if your work is selected and can include a bit about yourself, your entered artwork and inspirations).
- Social media handles (if possible).
Website link (if possible).
All ages are welcome to submit for this competition (please be aware that not all events or films shown at the festival will be appropriate for children).
Artwork Info For Entry:
By entering your artwork you agree to work being used by Artists Clubhouse and Worcester Film Festival for promotional material and advertisement.
Artwork must be inspired by your chosen films/TV shows and incorporate some element of Worcestershire’s Water
The artwork submitted must be two dimensional but can be created in any medium.
The final art piece that you submit does not need to look like the original film, it can be a mix of art styles, a surreal take or even inspired by a feeling or location. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
Your artwork needs to be a SQUARE design. We recommend creating the original if not digital in a size that you are able to scan. Making to fit on an A4 scanner is easiest but you can usually find access to A3 scanners in larger Libraries or printing businesses (for a fee).
We want to be able to show all artwork selected so please make sure the final piece is PG friendly as it will be seen by people of all ages, the film/TV shows that inspire your work however, do not need to be PG.
How we are judging: All submitted artwork will be put in front of a judging panel made up of people from local creative industries and our event partners. Your work will be judged on use of the theme, originality of concept, visual appeal and impact.

The printed posters used in the launch event exhibition will have been paid for through funding sources and are therefore the property of Worcester Film Festival and Artists Clubhouse. (We may be able to give these out to the artists after the launch event date but not on the actual night, we cannot guarantee these will not be damaged during use. We also cannot cover postage cost so collection at another event will be decided nearer the date.)
PLEASE NOTE:
Sometimes venues who host the artwork for the trail ask to keep the work, please let us know if you do not wish this to happen and we will make sure that all copies are collected and recycled at the end of the event.

Thank you so much to those who donated and bought artwork at our fundraising event; The Biggest, Littlest Exhibition in March, thanks to you all we raised enough funds to cover our printing costs for Lights, Camera...Paint 2026. This has meant we can keep this open call free to enter again this year.
We are keen to keep this free as it enables people from all backgrounds to give it a go with worry of financial risk.
