LIGHTS, CAMERA...PAINT ART TRAIL
An art trail celebrating all of the art that makes up the movies, in collaboration with Worcester Film Festival.
Lights, Camera…Paint is an art trail as part of Worcester International Film Festival, featuring artwork by local creatives that is inspired by a favourite film/TV and incorporates the theme in some way.
This year's theme was to take inspiration from Worcester’s riverine location, having always been integral to its identity. With its name originating from a pre-Saxon or early Anglo-Saxon tribe (the Weogoran) who occupied the area around the River Severn. We asked for art that is inspired by Worcestershire's waterways, wetlands, rainfall, springs etc merging these idea with a favourite Film or TV show.
This project is sponsored by generous funders, a massive thank you to Worcester City Councillors Mel Allcott and Lynn Denham and Worcestershire County Councillors Tor Pingree and Matthew Jenkins for supporting this year's trail and to Bluebox Software Ltd for donating our prizes again this year.
We would also like to thank those who donated and bought artwork at our fundraising event; The Biggest, Littlest Exhibition in March, some of these funds will also go towards this project.

Description: This charcoal study reimagines the NeverEnding Story's most tragic moment within the misty landscape of Worcester. By replacing the fantasy mire with the River Severn, the piece bridges cinematic nostalgia with the recurring reality of local flooding. The looming Cathedral serves as a silent witness, anchoring this scene of emotional loss in a familiar sense of place.

Description: I’m a mixed media artist, focusing usually on technical architectural work and more illustrative animal based work. For the submission I wanted to honour the horror movie trope of creature outbreaks caused by contaminated/polluted water, such as from ‘The Crazies’ or ‘The Host’. It only felt right for the ‘sauce’ of contamination to be Worcestershire’s pride.

Description: I usually create mixed media portraits of women in mythology and literature and thought of a few ideas for portraits of women in film that fit the brief, but wanted to push myself to try something different. I've always loved walks along the river/canals, so ended up creating a Stranger Things-inspired underwater upside down in the Severn with Worcester shops/businesses from the 80s

Description: The artwork for this poster was inspired by the work that our project, Neighbourhoods Nurturing Nature, has been doing along the River Severn in the city. Community spaces along the river are often affected by the river flooding and therefore need to adapt to a life along the river bank, as seen at Chapter Meadows and Worcester Community Garden. Willows are one of the few trees that enjoys the wet conditions of the river and Worcester has plenty of them along its route. The Wind in The Willows film allows us to be a part of the story of the animals that live within this wild space and become invested in their lives.

Description: This piece is inspired by the movie Hot Fuzz and the iconic scene where the protagonists Nicholas Angel and Danny Butterman are sent to catch a swan. On a recent walk down the severn I saw a couple of police officers near the swan sanctuary and it immediately conjured this piece in my mind. It was created digitally in Procreate and the style was very much informed by my latest obsession reading Hergé’s Tintin, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost would also go on to star in the Tintin movie adaptation so the combination felt fitting.

Description: My artwork celebrates Worcester’s natural environment, inspired by local conservation efforts through Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and the Swan Sanctuary. Each drawn element is based on my own photography of wildlife that I have witnessed along the riverside. This is inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s TV documentaries on ordinary nature, whilst also reflecting the focus of my doctoral research.

Description: Inspired by The Shape of Water mute Elise forms a deep connection with an aquatic being, here transformed into Sabrina, goddess of the Severn. United in the waters of Worcester, Sabrina and Elise connect through presence, place, and shared experience rather than through words. Together they embody the city's spirit of inclusivity, where understanding, belonging, and differences are embraced.

Description: Being born in the South East, EastEnders was my soap opera of choice. I was always fascinated by the opening sequence and how it followed the ribbon-like Thames threading its way through the streets of London. Now, I live in Worcester, similarly carved in two by a river, and just as full of soap opera-worthy tales from its history and folklore. Media – Acrylic Pen, with lettering added digitally.

Description: I am a fairly rough artist, i have always painted with feeling and emotion rather than a lot of detail. Truman show is one of my favourite films there is, the psychological turmoil that truman had to go through while figuring out his entire life is fake is horrifying, hence I believe the ending scene of him going up the stairs is so emotional. I decided to add River Severn as the edge of the city

Description: In my piece, I incorporated features like the cathedral, and Worcester bridge as these are iconic landmarks. I struggled initially, as I am not use to producing art digitally, but glad I could develop my skills. My piece was inspired by the Spider Man films, and hero concept, with the idea of producing a spider man scene in the heart of Worcester.

13. Warcestershire Horse by @Jmanning_2024

Description: Inspired by War horse, and my place of work Worcester racecourse, I added themes of Worcester like Whittington tump because it’s the tree you see coming back on the M5 at Junction 6 and reminds me that I’m home. I incorporated the cathedral as its backdrop to the racecourse is picturesque and lies next to the river Severn.

This special award honours the memory of Morgaine, a much-loved member of our community whom we lost earlier this year and whose spirit continues to inspire everyone at Artists Clubhouse.
This year, we’ve added one extra place in the Lights, Camera…Paint Art Trail to recognise an artist who has truly embraced our belief that creativity is a superpower. It celebrates someone who has grown in their art and in themselves, who has taken steps outside of their comfort zone, pushed their own boundaries, and shown real courage in participating in Artists Clubhouse this past year.
The Morgaine Community Award is given to an Artists Clubhouse regular whose journey reflects why we create: to grow in not only creative skill but in confidence, in courage and to find strength in creative self expression.
Morgaine was a superstar who battled fearlessly after finding herself newly disabled and having to navigate the world differently. She embraced art and Artists Clubhouse as part of her recovery journey, supporting us, as much as we supported her.
“Since that first [going along to Artists Clubhouse workshop] I have done many other things with them. I have made friends, been inspired, felt included and gained a safe creative space where I am able to be myself to the fullest extent. I am supported, valued and feel like
part of a team as Artists Clubhouse very much runs in a way where everyone can contribute thoughts, suggestions and ideas.” - Morgaine Wilkinson
Sadly earlier this year Morgaine was taken from us too soon leaving so many devastated by her loss! Over her time with us she helped to raise a small pot of funding through EasyFundraising and we wanted to use the money to be able to honour her memory of kindness, openness and her wonderful creative spirit by recognising the bravery and achievements of others within our community.

Description: This is a little different from my usual work but still has elements of my painting style. I love monster movies/tv and Godzilla is a personal favourite. Initially I had wanted the picture to be Godzilla ripping through Worcester Bridge but time got away from me. Instead my Godzilla is splashing around the Severn, scaring swans into flight, as the sun rises. Acrylic paint/paint pens on canvas.

Description: I'm an ameteur and hobbyist artist. The Seasoning is based on my all time favourite film, The Shining. It is inspired by the scene where the blood gushes from the lifts and Danny sees the twin girls, only the blood is replaced with water and the lift replaced with the Lea and Perrins factory.

Description: Inspired by the popularity of the Diglis Fish pass, members of the group used collage to each create a funky fish and beautiful background for our fantasy fish pass. Of course we had to include one of the most famous fish of all time - the gorgeous Nemo!

Description: This piece is a homage to some of my favorite horror films such as the Evil Dead, Cabin in the Woods, and Friday the 13th. Featuring a combination of Worcester locations such as the River Severn, Worcester Racecourse, and the Devils Arch, Ive integrated sites around the city to create an unsettling cabin by the lake theme utilizing the water theme of the brief.

Description: I'm student studying animation and illustration at the University of Worcester. This piece was inspired by the day when my friends and I went for a walk along the River Severn to feed the birds, and I thought it would be the perfect environment for Crowley and Aziraphale (from the TV show Good Omens) to enjoy a quiet moment together, as they tend to do.

Description: I'm (mark) Pingriff. Local artist, I create things in a variety of different styles and techniques (side note to you Emily, I can't write these artists description things for shit, I absolutely loathe it. This is as good as it will get, and it already makes me cringe). This piece was inspired by walking past the lock when it had been drained one day, I remember looking down at it and thinking "huh, reminds me of that trash compactor bit in star wars", so here's that thought brought to life. Fortunately it ties in well with this year's lights camera action theme!

Description: Dee Dee took the stunning photo of the river Severn and the cathedral through the bridge archway, and we combined it with her favourite film: The Sound of Music. The point where Maria and the Von Trap children are about to fall in the water seemed to fit perfectly. We have painted it in acrylics. Headway Worcestershire is a local, independent charity dedicated to supporting adults impacted by acquired brain injuries throughout Worcestershire. We provide specialised services, information, and support to survivors, their families, and caregivers. Our vision acknowledges that every brain injury is unique, affecting individuals differently. We strive to recognise each person's distinct needs and tailor our support accordingly. Our goal is to empower individuals to achieve their aspirations and lead a life that aligns with their desires and interests. We aim to foster a community where those with brain injuries are respected, valued, and able to live fulfilling lives, while also advocating for greater public awareness and a deeper understanding of brain injury's impact.

Description: I usually create animal portraits in pencil and pastels, so this was a new experience for me. Inspired by Worcestershire’s waterways, I combined the fish pass, Sabrina (goddess of the River Severn), and the film "The Shape of Water". My figure blends a Celtic princess, a water creature, and the river, symbolising our connection with nature. I used watercolour techniques to reflect the theme.

Description: I'm a multimedia artist who specialises in digital art. I love fun and whimsical art and The Umbrella academy is a tv show that has that vibe. I love how unique it is! The Worcester cathedral was something I couldn't help but add. It's one of my favourite buildings aesthetically in town!
