“A Pigeon Cares Not if it is Called the Rat of the Sky!”
Can creativity support confidence growth?
Artists Clubhouse’s ethos is simple: creativity for joy.
During this project, created with both students and the wider Worcester community, we set out to explore the link between art-making and confidence. We invited participants to use creativity in a low-pressure space, free from expectations or ‘perfect’ outcomes; to build identity, resilience and self-belief.
Through a range of playful and reflective techniques such as ripping, cutting, sticking, journalling memories and creating affirmations, participants were encouraged to experiment, express and explore the idea of self. Creativity is widely recognised as a powerful tool for supporting wellbeing; throughout this project we asked, can it also help us grow in confidence?
Participants took part in a mix of guided exercises and open-ended exploration, testing new ideas and discovering what art means to them personally.
This exhibition brings together a selection of their creative experiments: sketchbook pages, expressive affirmations, and individual artworks, all centred around the theme of wellbeing.
“A pigeon cares not if it is called the rat of the sky” - a reminder that confidence often begins when we stop worrying about labels and start celebrating our unique creative selves.
